About The Production

After the larger than life production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld in the spring of 2023, when the time came for another opera to be performed at UWEC, the concept of a more intimate opera came to life. Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon (Cinderella) was created as a parlor opera, which as the name describes, are operas that were meant to be performed in intimate settings like a parlor, with just a piano. The concept of this production was to recreate how this opera would be performed when it was composed. Riverside Theatre on UWEC’s campus was turned into a French salon, and the tale of Cinderella was told through the use of found objects within the parlor setting. The pumpkin coach was an orange ottoman, a piece of fabric in a trunk would be a fancy stole. This production was also my first time leading production meetings and calling a show. All of my cues were made from the score, which was a very new experience for me, as all of my previous stage management experience was from straight plays. Through constant score study, as well as coordinating with my ASMs and light board operator, we were able to effectively bring the magic of this story to life night after night.
